The Landscape and Maintenance Worker for Pemiska Tourism is responsible for the beautification, maintenance, and landscaping of Pemiska Lodges, Pemiska Trails, various monuments in and around the community and other areas as required. The Landscape and Maintenance Worker plays a crucial role in maintaining the aesthetic appeal and functionality of our destination grounds, facilities, and equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the landscape is well-manicured, and the overall environment is pristine as to enhance the guest experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Landscape Maintenance:
    • Perform regular maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, and edging of lawns using appropriate equipment.
    • Prune and trim trees, shrubs, and hedges to maintain shape and health.
    • Monitor and control weed growth by applying appropriate chemicals or manual removal methods.
    • Conduct regular inspections to identify areas needing attention and address them promptly.
    • Plant, cultivate, and maintain flower beds, gardens, and other ornamental plants.
    • Monitor soil conditions and apply fertilizers, mulch, and other treatments as needed to promote plant health.
    • Implement pest and disease control measures to protect plants from damage.
  2. Groundskeeping:
    • Clean and maintain pathways, driveways, and other paved areas.
    • Remove debris, litter, and fallen leaves from the grounds to ensure cleanliness.
    • Monitor and maintain outdoor furniture, fixtures, and decorative elements.
    • Assist with snow removal and ice management during winter months.
  3. Building Maintenance:
    • Conduct routine inspections of buildings, including guest rooms, common areas, and recreational facilities, to identify maintenance needs.
    • Inspect and repair plumbing fixtures, electrical outlets, lighting fixtures, HVAC and other building systems as needed.
    • Monitor and maintain fire safety equipment and emergency systems to ensure compliance with regulations.
    • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from guests and staff, addressing issues such as leaks, malfunctions, and damages.
    • Diagnose problems with building systems and equipment, and perform repairs or coordinate with specialized contractors as necessary.
    • Troubleshoot and repair appliances, including refrigerators, ovens, washing machines, and dryers, to ensure guest comfort and satisfaction.
    • Perform basic carpentry tasks such as repairing doors, windows, cabinets, and furniture.
    • Patch and paint walls, ceilings, and other surfaces to maintain a fresh and appealing appearance throughout the resort.
  4. Equipment Operation:
    • Operate and maintain: landscaping equipment including lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers etc; adventure equipment including ATVs, bikes, and canoes etc; power and hand tools.
    • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
    • Follow proper safety procedures and guidelines when using equipment and handling chemicals.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with the Pemiska management team to prioritize tasks and projects.
    • Coordinate with other departments such as housekeeping and facilities management to support tourism operations.
    • Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues to report progress, issues, and recommendations.
  6. Safety & Compliance:
    • Ensure that all building maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, inspections, and repairs for documentation and compliance purposes.
    • Participate in regular safety training sessions and promote a culture of safety awareness among staff.

• Previous experience in building maintenance or a related field preferred.
• Previous experience in landscaping, gardening, or grounds keeping preferred.
• Proficiency in basic carpentry, painting, and general repair techniques.
• Ability to operate landscaping equipment safely and efficiently.
• Ability to operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and a passion for maintaining high-quality indoor and outdoor spaces.
• Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
